’90 Day Fiancé’ star Andrei Castravet paid a heartfelt tribute to his wife Elizabeth Castravet’s father following his passing.
On Tuesday, November 25, Andrei, 39, took to Instagram to honor his late father-in-law, describing the video as a “tough one to make” and remembering Chuck Potthast as “a man who meant a lot” to their family.
“It’s been incredibly, incredibly tough for us,” Andrei shared in the clip, filmed from inside his car. “I know there’s been drama, tension, and storylines over the years, but what people saw on TV is just a small glimpse of our real relationship. What I can say is that Chuck genuinely loved filming. He loved the energy, he loved the excitement he really did. He cherished the connection between all of us… he loved people in general.”
Chuck’s passing was announced by Elizabeth and Andrei in a joint Instagram post on Sunday, November 23, revealing that he had died “two weeks ago.” Chuck, who had been part of the 90 Day Fiancé series since the family’s Season 5 debut, had played a significant role in the family’s reality TV journey.
Throughout the show, Andrei was often seen clashing with Chuck, but in his tribute, he emphasized that their off-camera relationship told a very different story.
“Some of my best memories are just off-camera, when we’re laughing and joking about how we’re fighting on TV, while in real life, we’re getting along… just like best pals,” Andrei shared. “That’s how I’m going to remember him.”
On-screen, tensions between Andrei and Chuck were highlighted multiple times. Chuck had criticized Andrei for being unemployed and not taking proper care of the home he shared with Elizabeth, among other things. Even after Andrei joined Chuck’s property management business, friction remained, culminating in a physical altercation with his brother-in-law Charlie in 2021 a moment that aired on the show.
In his tribute, Andrei acknowledged the past difficulties but hinted that he wasn’t ready to reveal all the details of their relationship.

For now, I just want to honor him,” Andrei told fans. “There’s a lot more to say about our real connection and the truth behind everything. Rest in peace, Chuck.”
The joint announcement from Elizabeth and Andrei about Chuck’s passing came as a shock to fans. “Tragedy struck our family and has left us completely shattered. My sweet, loving, and caring dad went to heaven. We’re trying to figure out how to navigate our lives and move forward without him,” Elizabeth wrote. “Please respect our privacy during this extremely difficult time.”
The couple first connected on a dating app before meeting in person in Dublin and marrying in 2017. They have since welcomed two children: daughter Eleanor in 2019 and son Winston in 2022.
