Tesla’s much-lauded Cybertruck is running into a new issue that nobody expected. The unsold stock of the electric vehicle is growing at a decaying American mall, and that has resulted in zoning disputes and anger in the community.
Inventory Growing at a Declining Mall
The parking lot of an old shopping center, which was once very popular, is now full of Cybertrucks. Reports from the local area speak of Tesla using the space for storing vehicles that have not been sold, due to the abundant parking and cheap leasing costs of the mall. The ever-increasing number of electric pickups, however, is no longer so warmly welcomed and has sparked a great deal of criticism from the residents and local officials.
Grievances about Zoning and Resistance of the Community
The place where the mall is situated was never meant for the storage of vehicles; thus, the people from the nearby businesses and residential areas are the ones mostly raising their voices. In addition to the fine, the company may also be forced to move the vehicles to another place, which means that Tesla will have to deal with yet another logistical issue during the Cybertruck’s distribution.
A Sign of Slowing Demand?
Although Tesla has not made any official statements, analysts in the industry are speculating that the backlog of the angular electric truck could be a sign of weaker-than-expected demand. The ones who supported the idea first immediately reserved, but the cancellation of the orders by some reported buyers is now attributed to high prices, production delays, or the vehicle’s alternative design.
