Tara Reid is speaking out after Chicago authorities announced they found no proof she was drugged at a hotel bar in November.
“No one ends up hospitalized and unconscious for over eight hours from a single drink,” the 50-year-old American Pie actress said in a statement to People, describing the November 23 event as a “horrifying experience.”
Reid explained to the outlet that her memory cuts off after “having one drink,” saying she later woke up in the hospital the next morning with no recollection of the night.
“I believe I was drugged. Something happened to me,” she said, explaining that the incident has been “severely affecting” her mental health.
“I can’t sleep over this; it’s terrifying not knowing what happened to me,” Reid added in a statement released through her representative. She went on to say, “It was the scariest feeling I’ve ever experienced,” noting that she had never felt so helpless.
Reid’s remarks follow a statement from the Rosemont Public Safety Department which oversees the Chicago suburb of Rosemont saying that hotel surveillance footage showed no indication that anyone “tampered” with her drink. The department added that the investigation remains “active and open.”
“After receiving a report alleging her drink had been tampered with, Rosemont detectives reviewed the hotel’s surveillance footage, including video from the bar,” the statement read. “Multiple interviews have also been conducted. Although the footage shows Tara Reid at the bar, at no point does it show anyone adding anything to her drink. We can confirm that a bartender covered her drink when she stepped away, which is standard procedure.”
The department also noted that it is still “waiting for hospital records” connected to Reid’s hospitalization after the alleged incident. “Once those results or any additional information come in, our detectives will follow up accordingly,” the statement continued.
They added, “At this time, no criminal act has been identified and there is no active suspect. While we have found no evidence that a drink was tampered with, this serves as an important reminder to never leave your drink unattended. If you believe you’ve been drugged or feel unsafe, contact local authorities immediately.”
Reid first spoke out about the situation in a November 24 statement to Us Weekly, alleging that she had been drugged at a hotel bar while in Chicago for a comic convention.
“Tara Reid is attempting to file a police report after an incident in which she believes her drink was compromised,” her representative said at the time. “She is fully cooperating with the investigation. Tara is recovering and asks for privacy during this traumatic time. She also wants to remind everyone to stay vigilant, watch your drinks, and never leave them unattended, as this can happen to anyone. She will not be commenting further at this stage.”
Reid formally filed a report with the Rosemont Police Department the following day. In the report obtained by Us Weekly on November 25 she recalled arriving at the hotel lobby and noticing several people recording with their phones. “There were a bunch of people in the lobby who were supposedly YouTubers. They had their phones out, and the whole thing felt suspicious, but I didn’t know what was going on,” she claimed.
We stepped outside for a smoke, exchanged numbers, and returned to the bar and that’s when I noticed a napkin over my drink,” she told police. “The last thing I remember after that was taking a sip of the drink and noticing a couple sitting beside us.”
Reid said her next memory was “waking up in the hospital about eight hours later” with no idea where she was or what had happened.
