James Van Der Beek’s wife, Kimberly, is opening up about her admiration and support for her husband as he faces his ongoing cancer battle.
The 43-year-old cheered on the Dawson’s Creek star in the comments of his latest Instagram post, sharing a heartfelt update on how he’s doing.
“You’re a wizard. Bouncing back, baby!! 😍😍😍” Kimberly wrote on Monday, November 24, under James Van Der Beek’s Instagram post. The couple shares six children: Olivia, 15; Joshua, 13; Annabel, 11; Emilia, 9; Gwendolyn, 7; and Jeremiah, 4.
On Monday, James Van Der Beek announced he’s selling replicas of his character’s away-game football jersey from the 1999 hit movie Varsity Blues, with proceeds going toward his cancer treatment and helping families facing similar battles.
In a video, the 48-year-old actor can be seen wearing the white-and-blue jersey, which features his character Jonathan “Mox” Moxon’s name and number (4) on the back.
“By popular demand! My favorite jersey. Maybe it was all fun plays we got to run in the football sequences for the away games… but I always loved putting on the varsity whites,” Van Der Beek wrote.
He added, “Last year when I released the Blues jersey, I was blown away by the love and support I received from all of you. It has meant more than I can ever express. I hope you enjoy this one as much as the original. For me, every jersey I sign is a magical full-circle moment.”
“Thank you for the love, the prayers, the support, and for making this jersey mean something far bigger than a movie. Endlessly grateful for all of you,” he continued.
While best known for his role as TV’s Dawson Leery, Van Der Beek also made a mark on the big screen as backup quarterback Mox in Varsity Blues, starring alongside the late Paul Walker, Jon Voight, and Scott Caan.
In addition to honoring his Varsity Blues legacy, Van Der Beek revealed earlier this month that he will be selling Dawson’s Creek memorabilia to help cover his cancer treatment costs.
“I’ve been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them, and with all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented, it’s clear that the time is now,” Van Der Beek told People. “While I feel a bit nostalgic parting with these items, it’s rewarding to offer them through Propstore’s auction and share them with those who have supported my work over the years.”
Among the items going up for auction are the necklace Dawson gave Joey Potter (Katie Holmes) for prom, expected to sell for between $26,400 and $52,800, and the outfit Dawson wore in the pilot episode, which could fetch up to $4,000.
Van Der Beek first revealed his stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis in November 2024. “I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family. There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good,” he shared at the time.
