CBS is fully in its nun era, with multiple series including Tracker and Matlock weaving clergy centered episodes into their storylines.
Justin Hartley’s hit show Tracker, which continues to dominate the ratings, even introduced a nun character in its Halloween episode. The third season had a challenge ahead of it following the departures of Robin Weigert, Abby McEnany, and Bobby Graise, but it’s still finding fresh ways to evolve its narrative.
Executive producer Elwood Reid teased what’s ahead for viewers as the show broadens its scope.
Some of the danger comes from the fact that he isn’t a cop he’s just a guy sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong,” he told Us Weekly exclusively in October, referring to the main character. “The network is always reminding us, ‘He can get hurt, he can lose a fight, he can get knocked out, he can have a gun aimed at him.’”

Reid continued, “Justin pitched an idea for the Season 3 midseason finale where things don’t go well for Colter. That’s what makes him fun he’s not a superhero.”
The showrunner added that the success of Tracker gives the team the freedom to keep raising the stakes.
“When I watch shows like this, the moment the character becomes infallible or perfect, I lose interest,” Reid said. “I like characters who have flaws, who make mistakes, who are mortal, who can be hurt and who can mess up.
He continued, I’m very aware of not making Colter too perfect. We’re roughing him up, letting him make mistakes and even do the wrong thing sometimes. For me, that’s what makes writing him so much fun.
Over on Matlock, Matty (Kathy Bates) and Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) are trying to determine whether their friendship can survive after Olympia discovered that Matty had been lying about her past as part of a revenge plan. Despite her ex-husband Julian (Jason Ritter) being the real problem, Olympia ultimately realized that Matty hadn’t been honest with her from the start.

She went on to explain how Olympia copes with the constant betrayals around her. “Throughout season 1, everyone betrayed Olympia from Julian cheating, to Shay cheating with Julian, to Matlock being a complete lie. Then Sarah takes a case behind her back, Billy helps her, and Elijah is playing both sides with Senior on her client because she broke up with him. Like, how does this woman still walk into Jacobson Moore with her guard up and still keep going?

Tracker
The show’s first Halloween episode which aired in November followed Colter to Massachusetts, where he joined an investigation into a nurse’s murder and an arsonist’s disappearance, all of which ultimately traced back to a killer nun.
