Based on Tay Marley’s book series, Sidelined: The QB and Me debuted on Tubi in 2024, following high school heartthrob Drayton (Noah Beck) and transfer cheerleader Dallas (Siena Agudong) during their senior year. Initially at odds, the pair eventually fall for each other, but a series of relationship challenges along with their individual dreams and ambitions threaten to pull them in opposite directions.
The first film quickly went viral, prompting Tubi to greenlight the sequel, Sidelined: Intercepted, which premiered on Thursday, November 27. The follow-up picks up with Dallas and Drayton, who are still happily together while attending their dream colleges in California. But new challenges soon arise: hectic schedules, unfamiliar faces, and the distance between campuses create more complications than they ever expected.
Director Justin Wu told Fandom Wire earlier this month that, with no book plot to follow for the sequel, he focused on staying true to the characters rather than trying to cater to audience expectations.
“When it comes to the second movie, I wanted to capture what people loved about the first,” Wu explained. “That meant scrolling through TikTok and reading thousands of comments on Letterboxd and other review sites to see what resonated. Moving forward, I set aside fan theories and asked the core question: Where do I think these characters should go?”

Where Are Dallas and Drayton at the Start of Sidelined 2?
Sidelined: Intercepted opens with Dallas thriving in the dance program at Cal Arts while Drayton is the starting quarterback at USC. Though they’re happy and deeply in love, the distance across Los Angeles and their packed schedules make it hard to see each other. They stay connected through texts, voice memos, and calls, but in-person time is rare.
When they finally meet, their moments together are anything but smooth. Dallas’ roommate interrupts an intimate moment, and Drayton oversleeps the next morning, hitting traffic and arriving late to practice. Dallas also struggles to make it to Drayton’s first major game on time because a job interview runs late, causing her to miss the moment he gets injured. Drayton tears his ACL, forcing a break from football and adding even more tension to their relationship.

Despite their efforts to make the relationship work, Dallas and Drayton ultimately realize that parting ways is the best choice. Tensions rise when Dallas attends a USC frat party—where Drayton’s teammates are rude and other girls make comments about him—leaving her uncomfortable at an event she didn’t even want to go to. Meanwhile, Drayton misses Dallas’ major dance showcase.
In the end, they mutually agree to break up so Drayton can focus on recovering from his injury and Dallas can dedicate more time to her dance career. “You’re a dream, but you’re not my only dream,” Dallas tells Drayton during their heartfelt farewell.
Who Are Skylar and Charlotte in Sidelined 2?
Skylar (Charlie Gillespie) and Charlotte (Roan Curtis) are the two new faces who almost come between Dallas and Drayton but ultimately, the breakup is more about timing and personal growth than anyone else. That said, both are tempted by connections that fill the gaps in their lives.
Dallas meets Skylar at a local coffee shop while interviewing for a job to help pay off unexpected Cal Arts fees. She almost blows the opportunity by assuming Skylar is a woman and saying she “doesn’t want the job,” but he forgives her honesty and hires her on the spot. They bond over their shared creative passions Skylar is a musician casting for a music video and wants Dallas to be in it. While she initially hesitates, sparks soon fly. Despite growing close, especially after Dallas and Drayton split, they agree to stay just friends, though lingering glances, long hugs, and a public serenade hint that Skylar’s feelings remain.
Charlotte, on the other hand, is Drayton’s physical therapist, helping him recover from his knee injury. They bond over sports and his rehabilitation, but when Charlotte asks him to come to her dorm for the night, Drayton declines, deciding it would complicate things.
Do Dallas and Drayton Get Back Together in Sidelined 2?
While fans may have been hoping for a fairy-tale reunion, Sidelined 2: Intercepted delivers some bittersweet news: Dallas and Drayton ultimately decide to part ways for good.
It’s not for lack of love. The two clearly still care for each other. They team up to help their friends Gabby (Asia Lizardo) and Josh (Jason Fernandes) reconcile on Halloween, sparking hints of a rekindled connection. Dallas even leaves Skylar’s live performance midway to take a call from Drayton, and the exes spend Thanksgiving together. In an intimate moment at Drayton’s L.A. home, they confess that they think about each other “every day” and sleep together.
However, distance remains a dealbreaker. When Drayton wakes up, Dallas has left a note explaining that their long-distance issues aren’t going to improve anytime soon. When she’s cast in a New York City show, she hesitates especially after discovering Drayton fibbed about staying in L.A. for practice on Thanksgiving just to see her but ultimately chooses to follow her dreams across the country.
The film’s final scene finds Dallas attending Drayton’s big return game, watching him lead his team to victory. Afterward, she asks him if he believes in “right person, wrong time.” Though unsure, Drayton tells her, “what’s meant to be will find a way.” They share a tender kiss before walking off in opposite directions, leaving their futures open but separate.
