The hacktivist clan Anonymous has perhaps been Donald Trump’s strongest adversary since his takeover. The group’s recent data dump claims the existence of disturbing ties among Trump, Putin, and the Russian government.
Advocating for “freedom of thought, expression, and privacy,” Anonymous has targeted right-wing personalities and governments across the globe for the longest time, but U.S. politics took center stage during the Trump presidency. The organization has repeatedly crossed paths with Trump supporters in very public disputes, not least that with Elon Musk on X (formerly Twitter).
In its latest updates, Anonymous alleges that the Trump administration is following an agenda in favor of Project Russia, a supposed plan to undermine democracy. The leaked documents—themselves derived from a breach into Russian intelligence databases—have revived the debate on foreign interests in American political affairs.
Anonymous may now have some credibility for a long-held belief concerning Donald Trump and his alleged ties to Russia. A sheer avalanche of clandestine data—of 10 terabytes in volume—has put paid to Vladimir Putin hiding under the Kremlin: Included in the tarnished data dump was a file named “Leaked Data of Donald Trump,” which allegedly contains evidence/stuff connecting the U.S. president to the Russian government. Forbes has been able to confirm that the breach revealed contracts, political intelligence, and detailed information about Russian oligarchs and defense firms in a well-organized manner.
The hacking group claims the leaks are aiding in Ukraine’s war by bringing to light Russian military and industrial secrets. However, while the Trump files did initiate conversations about possible connections to Trump, analysts warn that the folder, in all likelihood, does not provide any new information per se. “There’s nothing here we didn’t already know,” stated one expert, scaling down expectations of a bombshell revelation.
Curiously, part of the dump deals with Domino’s Pizza for reasons that remain obscure, although it would most likely relate to the company’s activities in Russia before it departs from that country in 2023. Anonymous framed the hack as a blow to corruption in the Kremlin, whereas the practical consequence of the Trump papers remains obscure to define.

Early analysis suggested it might end up being a historical footnote, rather than wielding much direct impact.
