Young love is great, but when it develops into a forceful debate with large amounts of passion, drama, and following the very complicated domain of baseball metaphors, it becomes a matter of family council and especially careful and tactful discussions. This was precisely what the father of a clever teenager went through when he accidentally heard his son and his girlfriend arguing about the next step they were to take in their relationship. The situation was indeed, the boy and the girl were in a heated argument about the basis, and it was the father who determined the next step they would take in their relationship.
The Argument the Whole Family Unintentionally Heard
The couple, so vehemently disagreeing, had differing opinions about what act really qualified as reaching the second base. The discussion concerned the intensity of the act- was it just kissing that could qualify us, more than just kissing, different type of kisses? The issue continued to baffle the community until pop-up umpire Dad could not resist the temptation to intervene, and he acted not as a father, but instead, as the love umpire.
Dad’s Official Decision
Clearing his throat in the manner of a judge just before delivering a verdict, Dad said:
“Hear me out, kids. As to the local authority in the domain of this issue—yes, partly, it was intended— here comes the official part: ”
- First Base: Hand-holding (how touching).
- Second Base: Kissing (the normal type, not the tasty French stuff—leave that for the lower divisions).
- Third Base: “Activities that would make Grandma faint from the shock.”
- Home Run: “It would be impossible for me to agree to that on my roof; hence, do not ask.”
The girlfriend couldn’t control her laughter. The son was embarrassed to death. As for Dad, well, he was now the most awkwardly effective relationship counselor.

The Consequences
The couple, who were too embarrassed to continue their argument, immediately changed the subject to something safer-like homework. Dad celebrated his win by sharing the story through text to his friends, and poor boy, he would get a lifetime of laughter.
