After an Air India flight to Gatwick went down in a medical college on fire, authorities have confirmed that no survivors are expected. The fireball from the crash also killed several people on the ground.
The plane, carrying 244 passengers and crew, met a catastrophic accident that resulted in a fire and debris in the air. Police have stated that the explosion on impact resulted in significant casualties beyond those on the aircraft, although exact numbers are still unclear.
Emergency crews were immediately dispatched; however, the fire and the scale of destruction hindered the rescue efforts severely. Witnesses narrated a terrible nightmare scene with the plane falling from the sky and the explosion sending a bright light in the area.
“This is a fatal incident with a very heavy price to pay,” a police spokesperson remarked. “Therefore, our main priority at this time is the recovery operations and giving our utmost support to the families whose lives might have been affected.”
