Jennifer Love Hewitt—someone very dear to many for her roles in I Know What You Did Last Summer and Ghost Whisperer—faced a lot of criticism online after the presentation of her new hairstyle. However, instead of simply ignoring the negativity, she found a way to respond in a better manner.
When celebrity hairstylist Nikki Lee showed a video of Hewitt changing her long hair into a very different short one, like a bob, her supporters showed their love immediately. They praised by giving comments like “Love your hairstyle!” and “Beautiful as always!” flooded the post. Some of the others, however, did not show the same level of respect or appreciation and shared their harsh opinion, such as Hewitt not being recognizable, le and talked about surgical procedures she could have had.
Hewitt’s Hilarious Response
In her characteristic way of dealing with trolls, Hewitt replied with several emotive and humorous selfies on Instagram, so heavily filtered that she looked nothing like herself. One in anime format, the other one’s eyes were so big that they looked like a cartoon. Her words beside the photos were full of sarcasm:
“So many people said I look different. I look the same as always. It couldn’t look more natural. I woke up like this. Filters don’t change you that much.”
She even emphasized the point of empathy and compassion with her words: “Let people be filtered or unfiltered. Be good. Be kind. Spread love.”
Not Her First Time Dealing with Trolls
She has been the target of harsh and uncalled-for comments about her appearance before. Previously, this year, while she was enjoying her 44th birthday, she made a post where she shared her best wishes, and quite a few commenters focused only on the visual aspect, not on her verbal expression.
In the post, she had described how she was thankful for her family, job, and life, saying: “I am deeply grateful, blessed, happy, sometimes insecure about aging, a mom of three incredible babies, married to the most handsome and awesome man, and excited to see what this year has for us.”
Do not feel her elation was supported, as some of them decided to target her with only the most superficial judgements.
A Lesson on Confidence & Kindness
Hewitt’s reaction is proof that she will not let those who say bad things about her on the internet take her light away. In her witty and graceful way, she lets it be known that both fans and haters—the citizens of her self-worth—are not the definers of what she’s worth. Showing off the new haircut or accepting the signs of growing old organically, she is still out there being a part of the change and the light of the world.
