A bizarre assumption proposed by Dr. John Brandenburg of Harvard is that a much-developed Martian community was bombed into oblivion by a nuclear disaster. This may seem to be an exaggerated and outrageous sci-fi idea- similar to the storyline of the film The Edge of Tomorrow.
However, Brandenburg defends his views with a reference to the findings of the scientific world.
In 2011, Dr. Brandenburg made public for the first time the idea that two Martian populous had been eliminated by a global nuclear attack. He alleges that the resulting effects still can be witnessed on Mars even today.
Iron oxidation (rust) is the most common explanation for the red color of Mars, however, it has been also offered by Brandenburg another possibility i.e. that it was a result of a large hydrogen bomb explosion. Additionally, he shows that some chemical atypicalities of Mars are very much like the ones of nuclear test sites on the Earth.
Yet, a lot of scientists doubt this suggestion. Critics of the idea assert that the lack of a visible impact crater or any other clear signs of a blast suggests that the hypothesis is wrong. Besides, the place where Brandenburg carried out his work was not known well which led to the question of the reliability of his work by many.
Nevertheless, the popularity of the theory on the internet is growing. The Philosopher and the author of science fiction stories, Jason Reza Jorjani, in a recent episode of the Danny Jones Podcast, which has more than a million subscribers, revealed Brandenburg’s revelations. Jorjani gave emphasis to the fact that there is the presence of Xenon-129 in Mars’ atmosphere—an isotope frequently connected with nuclear reactions.
“The high concentration of Xenon-129 on Mars is unusual as they are not occurring anywhere within the solar system,” Jorjani said. “Such isotopes can unmistakably lead us to thermonuclear explosions, which in this case would be the evidence of such an incident in Mars’ past.”
On the other hand, a different version is given by NASA.
According to the agency, there is a relation between strange levels of Xenon-126 in the Mars’ Cydonia region and natural geological activities, such as the release of gas from the surface of rocks.
Jorjani further discussed that Brandenburg’s paper was related to an unclassified report by the CIA in the 1980s that was an investigation about Mars through the experiments of remote viewing. The report stated that a psychic named Joe McMonagle was able to perceive a Martian landscape, which made it possible that there existed a destroyed civilization. It is a well-known fact that the CIA did not make any official announcements about its investigation on Mars.
Despite this, Jorjani is certain that the theory that comes from Brandenburg’s theory can be backed by such arguments, stating that it is not merely that the confirmation of life on the Mars by the CIA is not done, but also the aforementioned Uranium ions could be a result of an ancient war on Mars that had affected the planet badly.
“The data indicates a time of around 100 million years ago,” Jorjani said in an interview. “It could be either a natural phenomenon or an act of war, the proof is strong either way.”
The scientific community still does not consider it a proven fact, because the evidence is not yet convincing. The question of the nuclear war on Mars may be the most exciting prospect for the future provided that the occurrence is as mysterious as it is depicted.
