A recent poll has found that nearly half of Americans think that the ex-president of the United States, Donald Trump, is not open about his health as he campaigns for the second time to be the President of the US.
The poll, which was conducted by Newsweek, found that 49% of the participants are of the opinion that Donald Trump is not forthcoming with his health and wellness details. While at the same time, 33% of them were of the view that he had been transparent, and 18% were not sure.
These statistics are coming at a time when there is a lot of emphasis on the health of both Trump, who is 74, and Joe Biden, who is 77, not to mention that the two are preparing for a possible rematch in November. While people have constantly been worried about Biden’s old age and whether he was fit to carry out duties, Trump’s health has also been doubted.
Trump’s latest medical report, which was made public in 2023 from his attending doctor, Dr. Bruce Aronwald, pointed out Trump’s wellness as “excellent” and his cognitive exams as “exceptional.” Nevertheless, the report was scant in detailed information, such as blood test results or recent medical procedure records.
Critics have mentioned the occasions of Trump’s speeches when he has slurred his words or mistaken the names of people, implying there may be something wrong with his cognitive condition. Yet his supporters insist that he is quite sensible and still very active at the election rallies.
The same investigation revealed a red-blue divide, where 63% of Democrats thought that Trump had not been transparent about his health, and on the other side, 38% of Republicans considered it to be the case. Independents seemed to be less categorical, with 47% of them asserting he had not been open.
Given the proximity of the elections, the question of health transparency will most likely remain central for the voters in terms of the fitness assessment of the two candidates.
The sample population for the survey was 1,500 U.S. adults, with a margin of error of ±3 percentage points.
