Aaron Paul is the latest actor to trade Los Angeles for a new start elsewhere.
Speaking at The Only at 1850 by American Express party during the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, the 46-year-old Breaking Bad star told the Daily Mail, “When the fires hit L.A., we realized we were done. So we sold our home and moved to Paris.”
“Paris is incredible,” Paul told the outlet, noting that he relocated there with his wife, Lauren Paul, and their two young children.
“We went out there for the kids,” he explained, adding that he and his wife had always dreamed of spending a year abroad.
“We just always wanted to immerse ourselves in a completely different culture,” he said.
In January, a series of wildfires swept through the Los Angeles area, destroying more than 18,000 structures, burning over 57,500 acres and claiming more than 440 lives, including indirect deaths from smoke exposure. The total damage is estimated to fall between $28 billion and $53.8 billion.
By July, People reported that Paul had listed his Los Feliz home for $10 million. The three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath property designed by famed architect Stiles O. Clements and previously owned by stars like Robert Pattinson, Tim Curry, Noah Wyle, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Jim Parsons spans 1.5 acres and blends preserved period details with modern updates.
“Aberdeen has been a safe haven for my family, and we feel so fortunate to have lived so much life here,” Paul said in a statement to People at the time. “We will always hold this home and its history close to our hearts.”
Paul is the latest Hollywood star to trade the U.S. for life overseas. Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O’Donnell have also chosen to relocate to Europe following Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential win.
“I’m happy. Clay is happy. I miss my other kids, my friends so many things about home,” O’Donnell shared in a TikTok video explaining her move to Ireland. “But when it’s safe for all citizens to have equal rights in America, that’s when we’ll consider coming back.”
DeGeneres similarly acknowledged that political tensions contributed to her and wife Portia de Rossi’s decision to settle in the U.K.

“We arrived the day before the election and woke up to tons of texts from friends filled with crying emojis. I immediately thought, ‘He won,’” O’Donnell recalled in a conversation with English broadcaster Richard Bacon this past July. “So we said, ‘We’re staying here.’”
In April, O’Donnell also spoke to Us Weekly about her reaction to Ellen DeGeneres’ decision to relocate abroad.
“I’ve never really known Ellen to say anything political, so I was surprised to read that she left because of President Trump. That honestly shocked me,” she said. “I’ve been political my whole life not better, not worse, just different. I was very clear about why I was leaving, and no one close to me was surprised. Ellen and I don’t really live in the same circles anymore, and yes, it’s been a little awkward. But I truly wish her the best peace, love and well-being.”
